Louisiana Parents: Destroy This Amazon Playpen If You Own It

Louisiana (KPEL News) Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most joyful milestones. The excitement of bringing a little one into the home often inspires first-time parents to go all out in creating the perfect environment for their newborn.

One essential tool for any parent is ensuring their baby has a safe and comfortable place to nap or sleep. While a crib beside the bed works well for overnight sleeping, a playpen, pack ‘n play, or portable crib is crucial for daytime naps and safe playtime.

But not all play yards are created equal—and one brand is now under fire for putting children at serious risk.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an urgent warning to consumers: Stop using Welspo-branded play yards immediately due to serious risks of suffocation, injury, or death. The products are also under investigation for violating federal safety regulations for play yards.

According to the CPSC, the affected play yards were sold online on Welspo.com and Amazon.com between December 2023 and March 2024 for approximately $90.

These foldable play yards were manufactured in China and measure approximately 39 inches wide, 39 inches long, and 30 inches high. They feature mesh side panels bordered in red, blue, yellow, and teal, each decorated with colorful animal motifs including a lion, monkey, elephant, and sun. The lion panel includes a zippered door.

Each product comes with a matching animal-themed mattress and carrying bag. The word "Welspo" is printed on both the side of the play yard and the product packaging. Look for Model BP8305D or “Baby Playpen” printed on the box.

The CPSC strongly advises consumers to stop using the product immediately and to safely destroy it to prevent future use or resale.

Unfortunately, the product’s distributor—Bestrich, based in Hong Kong—has not cooperated with U.S. authorities and is not offering a refund or recall remedy.

Consumers are encouraged to report any incidents or injuries involving this product to the CPSC via www.SaferProducts.gov.
